Grants in action: Taking girls football to new heights with Stevenage Starlets FC

Stevenage Starlets FC is an inclusive junior club based in Hertfordshire in the UK which aims to get more girls into sports, so that they can benefit from the physical, mental and social wellbeing sharing a passion and feeling part of a team can provide.

The charity was nominated for an ACT grant by Towergate colleague Sarah Campbell, whose daughter Olivia plays for the team. Sarah has seen first-hand the impact this club has through her daughter whose confidence has grown significantly as a result of playing in a Starlets team.

In July 2018, ACT awarded a grant to help the club provide training and equipment to accommodate more teams and players at the club, which would not be possible without additional funding outside the usual player fees. Hear how this funding had an impact on the players, coaches and parents of the team.

This is a community where girls can boost self-esteem and get some confidence. Being good people is more important to us than being good footballers.
